Best of 2016

As the year comes to an end and we reflect on 2016, a few memories and projects really stand out. Here's our Top 10 from 2016 (in no particular order, really, we just like lists)...

1. Calligraphy & Watercolor Pro Classes:

Our one-stop valentine’s shop was such a fun day! We spent the day on-site at Sugar Bee Sweets and created made-to-order custom cards incorporating watercolor and calligraphy, and even hosted a calligraphy class that afternoon.

Back by popular demand, our Calligraphy Pro Classes were still a hit! We loved meeting so many creative folks who wanted to dive into modern calligraphy with a nib and ink.

Our Watercolor Pro Class was new this year and is definitely coming back – we can’t wait to plan more in the future. Focusing on watercolor florals, our guests were able to walk away from class with an understanding of the materials, mediums, and techniques to begin painting.

2. Style Changes:

This year we changed the way we photograph and present Art by Ellie invitations on our site and we couldn’t be happier with the results: clean lines, minimal styling and props, pro photography, and freshly designed invitations, of course.

3. Foil Invitations:

Anything that involves foil printing, we’re obsessed with by default! This invitation was so fun to print because it incorporates a flat-printed monogram in the background with foil pressed on top. The square cut also makes it super modern – LOVE!

4. Blush All-The-Things:

Blush was a huge trend this year and one of our favorite designs was this watercolor blush toned invitation with stunning slate grey accents. This suite included the invitation, RSVP card, belly band with the couple’s custom monogram, ceremony information, reception information, both adult and children’s menu’s, bar signs, and thank you cards, all complimented with digital calligraphy. Just gorgeous!

5. Envelope Liners:

Look. At. That. Envelope. Liner! The popularity of gold hasn't subsided and this gold glitter envelope liner provides glitz and glam with this traditional and otherwise classic invitation suite. We were so happy with the final product!

6. Pocket Folder Invitations:

Another of our favorite projects of the year: I mean, just look at this peach and grey suite! The only thing missing is their program and reception info cards featuring the beautiful mountains of Afghanistan incorporated into the design (we'll update the photo once we have our next in-house shoot). We really love adding cultural ties into a couple's wedding paper.

7. Wire-Wrapped Invitations:

Wire-wrapped invitations were born this year! We tried something entirely new, turning a classic wedding invitation into a unique work of modern art and couldn’t be happier with the outcome. We absolutely love this style because it is formal (as a wedding invitation should be) but also modern, edgy, industrial, and high-fashion.

8. Team Building Day:

Art by Ellie has the best team of gals who run the show! The only sad part is that because we work in a creative industry, we can literally do what we do from anywhere, so we mostly work remotely from our own corners of the DFW metro area and don’t see each other as often as we'd like. Thankfully we all came together during the summer and had an amazing team-building day together consisting of updated headshots, painting, calligraphy, Mediterranean food, laughter, and girl time. Squad goals, right here!

9. Styled Shoots:

We are always so humbled and excited when we're invited to be part of a styled shoot with other leading wedding vendors. We were thrilled to be involved in so many lovely shoots this year. This photo is from one of our latest shoots - a vintage 60’s theme with a modern twist! We hand-painted a bright lemon-yellow pattern on the back of the invitation and complimented that with a beveled border on the front.

10. YOU!

Thank you to all our wonderful clients & vendor friends for a fabulous 2016. We can't wait to see all that 2017 has in store... stay tuned and we'll see you in the new year! We wish you a wonderful Holiday Season with your loved ones!
